Innova launches second generation of its transparent mid-impact Polystyrene.

Innova introduced the second generation of its innovative grade of transparent high-gloss mid-impact polystyrene for packaging applications, Clear R 350L G2. The result of team effort in R & D and Technical Services, and developed at Innova´s Technology Center in Styrenics, the proprietary formulation of Clear R 350L G2 presents a significant gain in flexibility and ability for deep thermoforming, which adds to the features that ensured the success of its first generation: high transparency and stiffness in thin-walled applications, high gloss and competitive cost.

With the release of Clear 350L R G2, Innova increase the technological content of the grade and strengthens its position and the one of its customers to develop new applications with Polystyrene and replace other polymers in transparent thin-walled packaging applications. The possibilities for the development of new markets rely in the greater robustness of the material, which allows for the production of deeper thermoformed packaging.

The Second Generation is a new step of a process of continuous improvement of the grade, which was first developed in 2007 as a response to market demand for quality and cost-effective transparent packaging. The development of this grade of HIPS, with innovative properties and with no countertypes in the market, got a nomination of honor at Abiquim Technology Award in 2009, and its consolidation in the market was a result of a partnership among Innova and its customers in the disposable packaging segment.

Innova, a company fully controlled by Petrobras, is the Brazilian market leader in styrenics. With three manufacturing plants located in Triunfo Petrochemical Complex, it is the first and only Brazilian company to have an integrated production of ethylbenzene, styrene monomer and polystyrene in one single location. It has the capacity to annually produce 680,000 tons of petrochemical products.
