Quattor Petrochemicals will show an innovative enterprise that brings benefits to everyone at the 1st.

International Bio fuels Exhibition: the Green Propene Project. The exhibition, which is organized by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Agência Brasileira de Promoção de Exportações e Investimentos - Apex-Brasil) and by the Ethanol Cluster Association (Arranjo Produtivo do Álcool - APLA), takes place in São Paulo, on November 17.

Quattor will have a booth, where it will show its initiative on the green propene area, which involves glycerin.

Glycerin is a by-product of the biodiesel production, in which 100 ml of glycerin are generated at each 1 liter of biodiesel. With the increase in the production of biodiesel, the amount of glycerin to be generated is much bigger than the amount consumed by the market today; in other words, it will become an environmental liability.

Quattor’s project, which is already patented, takes for granted that if glycerin can be produced from propene, then, the reverse is also possible; in other words, turning that glycerin generated in the production of biodiesel into propene.

Such process has only positive points:

• It gives a destination to the waste (environmental liability), reinforcing the biodiesel production chain;

• It provides the production of a renewable source raw material as an alternative to the traditional raw material based on petroleum (naphtha);

• In the process of transformation of glycerin into propene, a considerable amount of water is obtained, and this can be used in the polypropylene production process, therefore reducing the water consumption in the plants.

The propene generated from glycerin, called Green Propene (because it comes from a renewable source), will serve as raw material for the production of Green Polypropylene, which has the same features of thepolypropylene currently produced from the propene made of naphtha.

As it offers the same properties as the traditional product, the already installed industrial park for the transformation of plastics can use the Green Polypropylene without any need of machinery adaptation, making products with a positive environmental and social differential available to the final consumer.

The expectation is that by 2012 Quattor shall have the Green Propene and Polypropylene on the market.
