BRASILPLAST 2011 confirms positive forecast for the plastics sector in Brazil.

Exhibitors celebrate deals closed during the fair, which attracted 65 000 visitors-buyers

May 20, 2011 - BRASILPLAST (13th International Fair of the Plastics Industry), promoted by Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado, reflected the momentum of the Brazilian economy, with the resumption of investment throughout the whole production chain of plastics. According to evaluations of most of the 1,390 exhibitors, including 504 from abroad, the overall perception was positive as a consequence of business deals closed during the exhibition days, which will be expanded over the coming months. This edition was also marked by new  solutions in products and services for recycling and plastics biodegradability, which attracted 65 000 visitors-buyers to Anhembi Exhibition Pavilion.

 Credit facilities offered by Brazilian Development Bank BNDES and Nossa Caixa also contributed to promoting business in BRASILPLAST. According to the manager of promotions and events at BNDES, Sidney Ferreira de Carvalho, 80% of the inquiries held during the fair came from micro and small enterprises and 20% from mid-sized enterprises interested in financing the acquisition of machinery. During the the five days of the fair, 158 inquiries were recorded. Nossa Caixa / Paulista Development Agency issued letters of credit worth $ 5 million Reals to fund the development of small and mid-sized companies in the State of São Paulo, as well as the purchase of equipment.

 Besides consolidating their brands and strengthening contacts with new customers, many companies were able to close deals at the fair. Exhibitors from the machinery and equipment sectors had sales that reached together approximately $ 6 million Reals. Excellent results were achieved by Staubli, as well as by Wortex and Coperion. Without revealing the money figures, Carnevalli sold 10 machines.

 The fair also attracted foreign investors to the 24th edition of the Buyer Project, which is promoted by Export Plastic Program, in partnership with APEX (Brazilian Association for Export Promotion and Investment). The project put together 29 Brazilian companies and six foreign ones, in business meetings which took place during the first day of BRASILPLAST. Representatives of U.S. and Chilean companies met with Brazilian entrepreneurs in 81 business meetings.

 Evaluation of sectorial institutions

 For the Chairman of the Board of the Association of Chemical Industries (ABIQUIM), Henri Slezynger, the business deals and the number of visitors from Brazil and abroad are an indication of expectations for strong growth in the market for plastic products in the coming years. "The suppliers of raw materials, machinery, equipment and processors who participated of BRASILPLAST demonstrated that they are prepared to meet increased market demand and compete in foreign markets," says

 According to the president of the Industrial Union of Plastic Resin Manufacturers of São Paulo (Siresp), Luiz de Mendonça, BRASILPLAST presented very positive results: "Once again, the show paved the way for the industry to show their potential for contributing to the development of the country, at a time when Brazil is presented as a stage for opportunities and investments. For a forecasted growth of Brazilian GDP around 4.5% in 2011, apparent consumption should evolve over 9%, according to the historical elasticity of demand which normally increases around twice as much as GDP figures. "

International Participation

 BRASILPLAST 2011 had a greater participation of international companies, in comparison with the previous edition which brought together companies from 30 countries. This year, relevant companies from 36 countries took part of the fair, including companies from Germany, Italy and Canada. Turkey, Iran and Denmark took part of the event for the first time.

 The Italian Pavillion brought 43 companies. According to Monica M.M. Cardoso, representative of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade of the Italian Embassy," Acma did great businesses, and Tecnodinamica, debuted at the fair with a big sale."

 The Mexican company Conair also participated for the first time. "We noticed a lot of interest from visitors, with business opportunities. We are sales representatives in Latin America and the goal is to expand our presence in Brazil, "explained Eng. Analdo O. Monteiro.

 The balance was also positive for all ten exhibitors at the Pavillion of Turkey. According to Mehmet Karaçonan, from the chemical department of IKMIB, an association affiliated with the department of foreign trade of Turkey, "businesses did very well. We achieved our ultimate goal which was to be in contact with customers and showcase our brands. "

 In the Pavillion of Switzerland, companies also celebrated. "Our main goal is to show high-tech ultrasound equipment. We managed to close many deals with buyers who really matter to us, "said Alda Bottega, administrative manager of  TEC-B.
