At Brasilplast, Unigel announces new plant to produce ABS resin in Brazil.

Unigel SA, parent company of CBE - Companhia Brasileira de Estireno, will produce 90,000 tons / year of ABS resin (Acrylonitrile - Butadiene - Styrene) at its facilities located in Guaruja, Brazil. This initiative will enable Brazil to replace imports with domestic production, given that Brazil currently imports all of its demand for this resin .

The investment in the new production unit will be $ 70 million Reals and will allow Unigel to generate additional annual revenues of $ 330 million Reals. The new plant will start operating by the end of 2012.

"The main raw materials for production of ABS - Styrene and Acrylonitrile -  are already produced by Unigel Group in Brazil, " said Marcelo Calil Bianchi, director of Unigel Styrenics Business. ABS is mainly used in the automotive industry , home appliances and electronic products.

With operations in Brazil for 45 years, Unigel owns15 industrial units in Brazil and Mexico, which produce the raw materials used in various industries such as automotive, textile, construction, packaging, agricultural, mining and electronics. Unigel's exports are sold to Europe, the United States and countries in Asia and Latin America; its investments in Brazil over the past 10 years exceeded 1.5 billion Reals.

Unigel's estimated revenue for 2011 is $ 3 billion, generating more than 2000 direct jobs globally.
