SCAPET 2013 Explores Opportunities in South / Central Americas & Caribbean PET Industry in Colombia

May, 13, 2013 - Major PET players and industry stakeholders in the South/Central Americas and Caribbean region will convene at CMT’s SCAPET 2013 in Cartagena, Colombia, on June 11-12, 2013, for an update on demand for PET conversion and packaging

Spanning over one and half days, [SCAPET 2013 is designed to explore trade dynamics, challenges and opportunities in the region in response to growing affluence, rising demand, changing market trends and trade dynamics. The growth in PET demand comes as an effect of new packaging expectations and technological advancements.

Chaired by Mr. Augusto Liparachi Knudsen, Commercial Director of Ravago Americas and Mr. Alfredo Netto, Strategic Business Director of Plastipak Packaging do Brasil, the conference will begin with an expert overview on the global PET outlook supply and demand chain as well as the regional trade dynamics.

Mr. David Swift, MD of PCI (PET Packaging, Resin, & Recycling), will go into details of the increasingly imbalanced demand/supply chain. He will also examine the region’s growth prospects set in perspectives against current and future supply, the changing trade dynamics, margin squeeze, recycling and sustainable development in the region’s PET industry.

Consultant from Nexant, Ms. Marisabel Dolan, will walk participants through the supply, demand, trade and economics of polyester intermediates. Trade flow, especially imports, is expected to change once new capacities in the region come onstream.

Speakers at the SCAPET 2013 will share their evaluations on regional prospects and trends amidst rising PET conversion and new applications through multiple sessions covered under the umbrella of PET Fiber/Preform Markets and Brand Owners’ Session.

Senior representatives from industry majors such as Corplas, Packaging Solutions, Nestal, Canadean, SIPA and Starlinger will touch on areas including preform/bottle technology, PET sheet production, milk packaging, new PET and PTA capacities and its impact on PET imports and trades from Asia and USA. Country-focus sessions include evaluation on PET markets in Colombia, Peru, Dominican Republic, Brazil and Argentina.

Key personnel from Total Plastic, Cristalpet, Sorema/Previero and Gneuss will look into sustainability and design innovation, new market segment growth including personal care, sheet/film, liquor/spirit and more.
Additionally, the [Brand Owners’ Session will also zoom into evaluation of consumer wants, as well as country-focus sessions on Venezuela and Uruguay.
