Packing Group buys film manufacturing facilities of Infiana in Brazil

February, 3, 2016 - On February 1, Infiana Group sold its production facility in Bahia state to the Brazilian films manufacturer Packing Group. Infiana is now operating from three locations globally: with its headquarters located in Forchheim (Germany), and production sites in Malvern (USA) and Samutsakorn (Thailand).

Packing Group manufactures approximately 110,000 tons/year and ranks among the largest producers of flexible packaging in South America. With the acquisition of Infiana plant, Packing Group will increase its production by 14.4 tons/yr. Before the acquisition, Packing had six factories in Brazil and distribution centers in Germany, Spain and United States.

The sale takes place one year after Infiana Group (formerly named Huhtamaki Films) becomes independent.

Background to the sale is Infiana’s strategy. "We continue to focus on the development and production of specialty film solutions", explains Peter K. Wahsner, CEO of the Infiana Group. "Selling our site in Brazil will not have any impact upon our global business, since the portfolio of goods produced in Brazil shows no synergies with the other sites. With Packing Group we have found a buyer who will integrate the site successfully into its corporate group and will be able to exploit the expected synergies in its current business. In fact, by selling the Brazilian site we are taking another step towards positioning ourselves as experts in the engineered release films, process films and specialty films sectors. For this market we do expect a considerable growth potential worldwide over the coming years."
