Braskem showcases its growing global presence during K 2016

October, 2016 - From October 19th to 26th, Braskem will participate (Hall 6/D27.) in the largest fair for plastics and rubber in the world, K Fair, which takes place in Düsseldorf, Germany. More than three thousand exhibitors from all continents are expected at the event to present trends and market innovations.

This year, Braskem will showcase its growing global presence and its increasingly innovative and sustainable product portfolio. In addition, the company will showcase updates at its manufacturing facilities in Brazil, the United States, Mexico and Germany.

Braskem-Idesa’s complex: The Petrochemical Complex Braskem Idesa (photo), inaugurated in June 2016, is a partnership between Braskem and the Mexican group, Idesa. With integrated production capacity of 1.05 million tons of ethylene and polyethylene per year, the complex is a key step for growth in the Americas and diversification of raw materials, reinforcing Braskem's internationalization strategy. This is the largest greenfield industrial investment ever made by a Brazilian company outside of Brasil with an investment of US$5.2 billion. The complex assembles a gas production based ethylene cracker and three polyethylene plants - two high linear density and the third low density polyethylenes.

UHMWPE new plant: Braskem’s newest plant will start operations during 4Q16. This new plant will produce ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), which the company sells under the trade name, UTEC®. The technology used for this plant is unique to Braskem and earlier this year the company announced it had enhanced its research and development capabilities at its Innovation and Technology Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. to support its UHMWPE development capabilities for current and future clients. The main advantages of UTEC are its excellent mechanical properties, such as high abrasion resistance, impact strength and low coefficient of friction. UTEC is a self-lubricating, high-strength, lightweight machinable product used for semi-finished goods. UTEC is eight times lighter than steel and lasts ten times longer than HDPE. It is used in a vast array of applications in the following industries: construction, agriculture, automotive, textile, pulp and paper, food and beverage, coal and mining, high-performance fibers, battery separators and waste water treatment.

Braskem Labs: Braskem Labs is a program to encourage entrepreneurs to offer solutions using chemicals or plastics that impact the society positively in several areas, such as agribusiness, health, transportation, food, water and energy. The 2nd edition of the program occurred in 2016, which selected 12 projects to be trained through mentoring. The initiative received 190 applications, growth of 19.5 % compared to 2015.

Wecycle: This is Braskem’s waste valuation platform. Launched in 2015 it aims to foster business and solutions involving plastic recycling through partnerships with organizations that already operate or are interested in operating in this segment. The initiative reinforces Braskem’s commitment to the plastics chain, as well as innovation and technology for sustainability. Some of the platform’s main performance pillars include the development of products with post-consumer recycled content for specific projects, certification and qualification of processes and products, and social responsibility actions for the recycling and recovery of plastic waste.
