Italians stand together at Plastimagen 2026

October, 30, 2026 - There are 32 companies participating in the Italian pavilion — spanning over 700 square meters and coordinated by the trade association Amaplast — at the Plastimagen trade show, which will take place in Mexico City from November 10 to 13, 2026.

The following Members are exhibiting in the center of Pavilion D at the Banamex Exhibition Center: Amut, Bausano & Figli, BDL, BG Plast Impianti, BMB, Borghi, Colines, Frigosystem, Gavo Meccanica, Gefit, Giurgola Stampi, HT-Cooling, IPM, Itib Machinery International, Magic MP, Moretto, Moss, OMG srl, Omipa, Pegaso Industries (Blauwer, Ergomec, PET Solutions, Plastic Systems), Plas Mec, Plastiblow, Previero-Sorema, Sica, Syncro, Tecnowerk Plast, Tria.

Numerous other Italian companies will attend through the booths of their local agents or subsidiaries.

The Mexican economic landscape showed both ups and downs throughout 2026; after a decline in the first quarter, the trend reversed, and the latest forecasts estimate GDP growth of 1.5% in 2026 and 1.8% in 2027.

For the plastics sector, the economic outlook may vary depending on the application sector: food packaging, medical, electronics, and certain industrial products continue to show relatively solid prospects, while the automotive sector is more exposed to trade tensions with the United States and the revision of the USMCA/T-MEC agreement: In 2025, Mexico produced 3.95 million light-duty vehicles, 0.9% less than in 2024. Throughout 2026, exports in this sector were affected by new U.S. tariff measures and discussions regarding rules of origin.

According to the trade association ANIPAC, Mexico's plastics industry — which comprises over 6,000 companies, employs more than one million people (directly and indirectly), and whose output accounts for over 3% of manufacturing GDP — could grow by 2.5% in 2026; however, this growth will depend on the outcome of the USMCA negotiations and the ability to strengthen the domestic market. Another important factor for the sector is the introduction, on January 19, 2026, of the new Ley General de Economía Circular, aimed at extending the useful life of products, recovering and reusing materials, and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills, through the development of products based on circular design principles.

The new legislation is expected to gradually increase demand for technologies related to recycling, efficiency improvements, automation, and the processing of recycled materials, as well as the production of goods that use fewer materials — with a focus on investments aimed not only at increasing production capacity but, above all, at modernizing facilities and advancing the circular economy.

In 2025, the country remained the world's fourth-largest importer of plastic and rubber machinery, with a value of over 2.44 billion euros. Local consumption of raw materials reached nearly 7.6 million metric tons, and forecasts for 2029 indicate that demand could exceed 8.2 million metric tons.

For Italian-made machinery, equipment, and molds for plastics and rubber, Mexico has been one of the most promising markets for several years now. In 2024, at the peak of a four-year period ofstrong growth, Italian machinery exports reached an all-time high, with a total value of approximately 230 million euros and a significant share of high-value-added "core machinery." In 2025, accounting for 4.55% of the total and with a total value of 155 million, the country ranked sixth in the sector's export rankings; in the Americas, it is the second-largest trading partner for Italian manufacturers, after the United States.

To support its member companies in their efforts to enter the Mexican market, in 2025 Amaplast launched — in collaboration with UCIMU-Sistemi per Produrre, the Association of Machine Tool Manufacturers — a market outreach project featuring a desk called "Oficina de Promoción México, AMAPLAST-UCIMU" which aims to assist companies interested in strengthening their presence in Mexico, serve as a bridge to local companies, and support the Association's promotional activities.
